The Best Christmas Movies on Netflix

I may be a little late to the party with Christmas content this year, so I’m quickly thrashing out a festive post to grace your feeds. This year I’ve been watching a bunch of Christmas movies to get myself in the festive spirit, particularly on Netflix. If you’re anything like me, I can take hours to decide which film to watch, to the point where I won’t end up watching anything at all. However, I’ve decided not to be as picky this year with my movie choices, and have watched whatever I thought might appeal.

I have put together a quick round up of festive movies to watch on Netflix this Christmas, which are sure to get you in the seasonal spirit. The list is in no particular order by the way!

1. The Holiday

I know, I know, The Holiday is on every Christmas movie recommendation list. But I watched it again a couple of weeks ago, and completely fell in love with the characters and story all over again. I mentioned this in a Christmas movie round-up last year too. It’s such a great festive feel-good rom-com that never fails to give me a warm fuzzy feeling inside. It’s such a well thought out and quirky movie, that I just had to add. No movie Christmas list would be complete without The Holiday.

2. Holidate

I watched this movie for the first time last week and laughed out loud throughout. The story follows Emma Roberts as Sloane and Luke Bracey as Jackson, who start off as complete strangers. They decide to become each others Holidate for the year, meaning any holiday e.g. valentines day, St. Patricks Day, Easter, Halloween, Christmas etc. they will spend it together, to avoid being alone. I won’t give too much away, but the plot is hysterical, crude and hopelessly romantic, so is perfect to watch over Christmas.

3. Love Hard

A new Netflix Original movie with Nina Dobrev as the main star. It was strange seeing Nina portraying anyone other than Elena Gilbert and her doppelgangers in the Vampire Diaries, but is definitely a must watch! Nina is a dating blogger for an online magazine and shares her disastrous dates with her following. She meets a young, handsome guy on a dating app, and after a couple of weeks of chatting, she decides to surprise him for Christmas. However, to her astonishment, she has been catfished! After some convincing, Nina agrees to pretend to date the guy who catfished her for the the festive period, so he can impress his family. Similar to the Holidate, I laughed on so many occasions and the movie just put me in a great mood. This will be on my movie watch list for years to come!

4. Last Christmas

If you love Wham’s iconic Christmas song, Last Christmas, then you will certainly enjoy the movie with the same name. The film features multiple George Michael classics throughout, with him being the main antagonists favourite musician. Last Christmas is set in the heart of London (no pun intended…if you’ve watched the movie, you’ll no what I mean), where a young girl works in an all-year round Christmas store dressed as an Elf, meets a handsome mysterious stranger. The cast includes Emilia Clarke, Henry Golding and Emma Thompson.

5. The Princess Switch

I watched this movie last year, followed by The Princess Switch (Switched Again), however I wouldn’t bother watching the latter, it’s terrible. The movie features Vanessa Hudgens as the main character(s), she plays 2 different people. Stacey DeNovo is a budding young baker who is entered into a baking competition in the Kingdom of Belgravia. During the trip, Stacey bumps into Lady Margaret Delacourt, who looks identical to her. Margaret suggests they switch lives for a couple of days, so she can take a break from the spotlight. I won’t go into much more detail, but I think I’ve covered the main plot here. I really enjoyed this movie, and might give the third film a try, but I don’t have high hopes as the second movie was awful.

6. Jack Frost

Jack Frost is a classic Christmas movie that we all know and love. It’s heart warming and tear jerking, so if you’ve never seen the movie before, make sure to have some tissues to hand, as you’re in for an a rollercoaster of emotions. A young boy sadly loses his Dad in a tragic car accident, but over Christmas, his Dad’s spirit is reincarnated into a Snowman! This movie has so many fun elements to it, but can be upsetting in parts.

7. Love Actually

Another Christmas movie that is on the majority of people’s festive watch lists. However, it isn’t usually on mine. I watched Love Actually many moons ago, but never understood the hype. I decided to give it another go this Christmas, to see if my opinion had changed… and it actually, sorry, has! I enjoyed it a lot more than when I first watched it, I certainly wouldn’t say it was my favourite Christmas movie, but it’s made it on to future lists!

And there you have it, a quick list of must watch festive movies for your Christmas break, all found on Netflix. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and 2022 is a much better year for us all!

Second Skin Highlighter Collection – Jolie Beauty

*Contains gifted products in exchange for a review*

Jolie Beauty are a new favourite brand of mine. After trying out their stunning Bomb Dot Com Glitter Eyeshadow palette, I’m delighted to be working with them again and reviewing the gorgeous Second Skin Highlighters. Besides eyeshadow, highlighters are one of my favourite makeup products. I love how they can completely transform the skin simply by adding a pop of shimmer and glowiness to the high points of the face.

The Second Skin collection contains four highlighters in the shades Dreaming, Saintly, Euphoria and Paradise. Jolie Beauty claim that their highlighters give a “lit from within look”, which is exactly what I search for in a highlight. Each highlighter retails for £16.99 and comes with a sizeable mirror within the compact, perfect for those touch-ups on the go. The packaging is very sleek, simple and stunning. Each highlighter arrives encased in a gorgeous rose gold plastic, making the product look a lot more expensive than it is. and Not only are the Second Skin highlighters beautiful to look at, they are also Vegan and Cruelty Free!!

Jolie Beauty Second Skin Highlighter in the shade Dreaming

I’ve been trialing the Second Skin Highlighters for a couple of weeks now, I was kindly gifted Dreaming and Saintly. Both highlighters are absolutely beautiful, however I feel Dreaming is a little too dark for me, Saintly, on the other hand, is my perfect shade. Saintly is a stunning champagne shade suited to paler skin, whereas Dreaming has more of a bronze undertone. Personally, I think Dreaming would work best on medium skin tones, and could even be applied as a shimmery bronzer topper. Dreaming is advertised as being suited to light to medium skin tones, but I think it would be better for medium skin. The shade looks a lot lighter on the website than it is in the pan. I’ve actually incorporated Dreaming into my eye makeup, by adding to the centre of my eyelid to create a gorgeous bronzed festive look. There are absolutely no ‘rules’ when it comes to makeup products, I would even use Dreaming on my body in the summer (shoulders, collarbone, legs) to make the skin appear sunkissed and glowy.

The highlighters are very finely milled, giving the product a natural appearance once applied. They can definitely be built up to create a blinding highlight, if that is your preferred go-to look. We all love a bit of glitter and sparkle in our lives, however the Second Skin collection is by no means a ‘glittery’ highlighter, meaning it melts beautifully into the skin and makeup underneath. Jolie Beauty claim that this formula does not emphasise textured skin. I cannot comment on its smoothing effects as I don’t suffer with texture problems where I apply the highlighter, but it does appear very soft on the skin.

Overall, I am obsessed with the highlighters in the collection that I have tried, especially Saintly. I can definitely see myself wearing it all of the time. I’ve already been reaching for it over the other highlighters I own, they are already a new staple in my collection. Jolie Beauty also have a range of blushes in their Second Skin collection, which look just as stunning as their highlighters.

Christmas With Ktkinnes Christmas Tag

I am so excited to share this post, it was my first time being involved in a Christmas tag post, and I had so much fun completing the questions. Read on to find out my answers!

I am so excited to share this post for two reasons. One because this is my first time being involved in a Christmas tag post, and two because I had so much fun completing the questions, it really put me in the festive spirit. First and foremost, I would like to thank Katie from Life with Ktkinnes for not only allowing me to take part, but also for creating the tag.

The Christmas Tag Rules

  • Put on your favourite Christmas Playlist to listen to while answering
  • Have a Christmas drink and/or snack while writing
  • Thank the blogger who tagged you and link to their site
  • Answer the 10 original questions
  • Answer the questions set by whoever tagged you
  • Ask 2 questions of your own
  • Tag 6 bloggers to take part

The Original Questions

1. When do your decorations go up?

We never put our decorations up before December, it’s always the first or second weekend 🎄

2. Who is the Scrooge in your family or friendship group?

I genuinley don’t have anyone in my immediate family or friendship group that doesn’t enjoy Christmas. We always have a wonderful time and really enjoy the whole celebration.

3. If money were no object, how and where would you spend Christmas?

I would love to spend Christmas in a cosy log cabin, possibly in the Alps or anywhere that has guranteed snow fall at Christmas time. It would be amazing to spend a few days away with family and relax by a gorgeous log fire. A girl can always dream…

4. What Christmas film do you have to watch every festive season?

It’s got to be either ELF or Home Alone, they are both absolute classics that always make me feel festive. I actually have a blog post on my Top 10 Christmas Movies.

5. Who do you find the hardest to buy presents for?

Hmm this is a tough one, as the majority of the people I buy presents for are a nightmare to buy for. The main 3 are my boyfriend, my Dad and my boyfriends Dad… see they’re all men! I never know what to get them for Christmas or Birthday’s, they are definitely the most awkward people to find gifts for.

6. Would you rather buy lots of little presents for a hamper, or buy one big/main present?

I’d rather buy a few smaller gifts, because you can tailor them to the person you are buying for. It’s always nice to have a few things to open at Christmas, but a main present is a great idea too. I think it really depends on the receiver.

7. What did you leave out for Santa when you were a child?

I would always leave out a Mince Pie and an alcoholic drink (usually my dad’s favourite drink 😉). Of course I’d also leave a carrot for Rudolph.

8. Where did you spend last Christmas?

I spent it at home with my close immediate family. Mum, Dad, Nan, Aunties and Uncles and my gorgeous younger cousin Francesca.

9. Which Christmas song makes you cringe?

I am going to have to go with Mistletoe and Wine by Cliff Richard. I’m not sure what it is but I find it so creepy. Now I’ve got it stuck in my head haha!

10. If you could be a character in a holiday movie, who would you be and why?

I think I would love to simply be Santa Claus from The Santa Clause movie. How amazing would it be to fly on a sleigh around the world and deliver presents. Having reindeer’s as pets would be the best, they’re so cute!

Katie’s Questions

1. What is your favourite Christmas decoration in your house and why?

I wouldn’t really say I had a favourite decoration, but our Christmas tree always looks beautiful and makes the room feel so cosy. Unfortunatley this Christmas we don’t have anywhere to put our tree, so won’t be having one this year 😢. We are in the middle of getting an extension to the house so we don’t have the space.

2. Which celebrity would you most want as a friend, and what would you gift them for Christmas?

If my boyfriend reads this, then he will do a massive eye roll. It would have to be Harry Styles (he was my teen crush, I was a tad obsessed). I can imagine the conversations about his experiences and the people he has met to be so interesting. As for a Christmas gift, possibly a snazzy shirt, he’s always wearing crazy outfits, so an eye catching piece of clothing for sure.

I had so much fun answering the questions, the rules made it even more festive. I am going to tag the following 6 bloggers to take part, if they haven’t already: Rebecca Louise Blogs, Lucy Mary, Female Original, Bournemouth Girl, Jenny in Neverland and Planning with Em.

My two questions to you all are:

What is your favourite part of your Christmas Dinner?

What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?

If I haven’t tagged you, but you would love to tag part, please do let me know. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

How to be Sustainable at Christmas

I’m all about doing my fair share to help the environment, so this year I want to try my best to be a little more sustainable, and help you out along the way.

Ahh the joys of Christmas. It is the most amazing time of the year isn’t it, but also the most wasteful. I’m all about doing my fair share to help the environment, so this year I want to try my best to be a little more sustainable. I have taken/plan to take a few measures to make that happen, and I really wanted to distribute my knowledge out to you on How to be Sustainable at Christmas.

Be Mindful of How you Wrap Gifts

Christmas Gift wrapped in brown paper
Photo by Nathan Lemon on Unsplash

We all love our gifts to be wrapped in the highest quality, most festive wrapping paper. But it’s about time we become a little more mindful on how to we wrap our presents. Did you know that wrapping paper containing foiled decoration cannot be recycled? Although it looks beautiful, it’s really bad for the environment. You can find really intricate and festive wrapping paper from various retailers, simply by searching Recyclable Wrapping Paper in to Google. I’ll list some of my favourites for you below.

  • Kraft Snowy Trees Christmas Wrapping Paper – Paperchase
  • Kraft White Trees Christmas Wrapping Paper – Paperchase
  • Walolo 11x Large Sheets Christmas Wrapping Paper – Amazon

Stop Buying New Decorations Every Year

I understand that we like to switch things up each Christmas, but try to avoid purchasing new decorations every year and stop tossing the old ones. If you are fed up of your old decorations, donate them to a charity shop rather than throwing them in the bin. If you simply NEED new decorations, shop from environmentally friendly stores like Protect the Planet. They have plenty of gorgeous eco-friendly Christmas decorations and fair-trade recycled glass baubles.

Shop Small this Christmas

Small businesses are struggling more than ever this year. Reduce your carbon footprint by purchasing from your local small businesses. You’re not only helping the environment, but supporting your community as well. I have put together my very own small business gift guide here. If you are from Liverpool or the surrounding areas, Independent Liverpool have created The Independent Liverpool Christmas Shopping Guide, featuring plenty of gift ideas from a plethora of different catagories, including Art, Food and Drink, Books and Music etc.

Reduce Food Waste

This is definitely the most obvious, stop buying food that you won’t eat. I know that is easier said than done at Christmas, but try not to buy 50 tins of Quality Street just because they’re on offer. Make sure you purchase food that has a long use by date, so you have more of an opportunity to eat it over the festive period. Buy food which can be frozen, it will last much longer so you’re less likely to waste it.

Sustainable Gifting

Christmas Presents under a Christmas Tree

I’m about to self-promote again and share my 2020 Christmas Gift Guide with you for the second time in this post. I have a section on Sustainable Gifts to buy this Christmas from a bunch of eco-friendly brands, including Brushbox and KIND2. Buying sustainable gifts mean that your carbon footprint is reduced, and you would also be learning your friends and family on how to become more sustainable too. You could also handmake your own gifts if you’re creativity!

I hope you have found this post useful and have learnt some new ways to become more sustainable at Christmas. These 5 ways to be sustainable don’t just apply to Christmas, but can be used throughout the year when shopping for gifts for all occasions. Are you planning on a more sustainable Christmas?

Top 10 Christmas Movies

Over my 24 years I have watched my fair share of Christmas films, from the classics to the modern day tales, so I thought it only fitting to bring you a list of my favourite Top 10 Christmas Movies that you must watch this December.

The most wonderful time of the year is finally here! Whose ready to light some festive candles, eat their body weight in chocolate and pigs in blankets, and get warm and cosy to watch some Christmas movies, I know I certainly am!

Over my 24 years I have watched my fair share of Christmas films, from the classics to the modern day tales, so I thought it only fitting to bring you a list of my favourite Top 10 Christmas Movies that you must watch this December.

1. The Polar Express (2004)

The Polar Express is one film which never fails to get me excited for Christmas. On Christmas Eve, a young boy spots a mysterious train appear at the front of his house, bound for the North Pole. The boy boards the train and is greeted by plenty of other children, who are heading to see Santa Claus. This movie is filled with exciting twists and turns from the get go, and features Tom Hanks as the voice of the conductor. If you did not already know, this film is based off of the 1985 novel of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg.

2. Home Alone (1990)

No Christmas is complete without watching Home Alone. This hilarious slap-stick comedy will have you laughing out loud for its entirity. Starring child star Macaulay Culkin as the very cheeky Kevin McCallister, and Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern as the Wet Bandits. Kevin and his family are due to go on a family vacation to Paris, when a nightime power cut causes their alarm clocks to reset and the family to oversleep. In the morning rush to get to the airport on time, Kevin’s parents mistakenly leave him behind! As the story unfolds, Kevin finds himself home alone, with the difficult job of fighting off a pair of burglars! Kevin creates all sorts of crazy, and hilarious, contraptions to defend his home!

3. The Holiday (2006)

If you love a good Rom-Com, then this movie is definitely for you. In London, Irene (Kate Winslet), a writer for the Telegraph newspaper, is left in emotional termoil after her workplace crush seeks romance with another woman. Meanwhile, in LA, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) trades her glamourous lifestyle with Irene, for a quaint cottage in the English countryside, after discovering her boyfriend was cheating. Upon arriving in wintery England, Amanda is left feeling lonely, but her mood is soon brightened by a drunk Graham (Jude Law) on her doorstep. This movie is pretty much 2-in-1, with both stories of lust and love coming together into this light-hearted festive delight.

4. Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

After the Department Store, Coles, fires their Santa Claus for drinking on the job, right before a Thanksgiving Parade, Cole’s events director spots an elderly man, who is soon her replacement Santa. The man introduces himself as Kris Kringle, and plays the part of St Nick so well, he is hired immediately as Cole’s main Santa for the holiday period. Later on in the movie, Kris is arrested for supposedly assulting a man (the former drunken Santa Claus). It becomes abundantley clear that in order for Kris to be aquitted of this crime, his defence team must prove that he is, in fact, the real Father Christmas. Miracle on 34th Street is a Christmas film like no other and should be on your movie watch list this year!

5. ELF (2003)

I couldn’t put together a list of Christmas movies without including ELF. One Christmas Eve, a baby boy crawls into Santa’s toy sack at an orphanage, and is unknowingly transported to the North Pole. When the baby is discoverd by the elves in Santa’s workshop, Papa Elf decides to adopt the child and raise him as his own, giving him the name Buddy. Many years later, Buddy, now a full-sized adult, after out growing his fellow elves, overhears in the workshop that he is not an elf afterall, but a human! Papa Elf explains to Buddy that he was put up for adoption by his parents. Buddy then travels to New York on a quest to find his father. I have watched this movie countless times, and it still turns me into fits of giggles.

6. Deck The Halls (2006)

Deck the Halls, starring Danny DeVito as Buddy Hall and Matthew Broderick as Steve Finch, is another classic Christmas film filled with plenty of laugh out loud moments. Buddy and his family (twin daughters and wife) move into their new home ahead of the festive period, living opposite Steve. Over the coming days, Buddy decides he wants to decorate his house for Christmas BUT his aim is to have his Christmas lights visible from Space. Steve and Buddy’s rivalry soon begins, when Buddy’s lights and special effects become an annoyance. Deck the Halls is one of those terrible Christmas Movies that you just cannot help but watch every year.

7. Jingle All The Way (1996)

If you like cheesy movies, then Jingle All the Way is something you will enjoy. Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger as Howard Langston, a workaholic business man who has left it until Christmas Eve to get his son the must-have toy of the season Turbo Man. In desperation to find Turbo Man, Howard becomes enthralled in a battle with new nemesis Myron (played by Sinbad), by taking on the role of Turbo Man himself. Jingle All the Way is a stupidly good film, that combines every parents nightmare into a comedic delight.

8. A Christmas Carol (2009)

A Christmas Carol is a Disney reimagined version of the classic Charles Dickens novel. Featuring Jim Carrey as the voice actor of Scrooge and the three ghosts who haunt Scrooge. You all of course know the famous story of Ebenezer Scrooge so I won’t go into much detail. However, this version of A Christmas Carol is incredible, the animation is impeccable and the story always puts me in a festive mood. If you haven’t already watched this movie, then you definitely should this Christmas.

9. The Santa Clause

Tim Allen is the star of the show as Santa Claus, in The Santa Clause. Originally a normal guy, Scott (Tim Allen) accidently causes the real Santa to fall from his roof. Scott must become the new Santa and finish off the Christmas gift deliveries. I am obsessed with this movie, and I am so glad I can stream it from Disney+. The Santa Clause has two sequel movies, so I plan to have a Santa Clause movie marathon at some point in December!

10. The Christmas Chronicles

This movie is the most recent film I am going to mention. Airing on Netflix in 2018, The Christmas Chronicles is a festive comedy which is sure to get you excited for Christmas. Staring Kurt Russel as Santa Claus, the story follows two children who jump into Santa’s sleigh after spotting him in their home on Christmas Eve. The sleigh tragically malfunctions and it is up to the children to help Santa save Christmas. I really enjoyed this movie and since its release Netflix have created a second movie, which is available to stream now. I am yet to watch the second installment to this Christmassy tale, so I will definitely be settling down with a mug of hot chocolate this December to transport myself into some Christmas magic.

I had so much fun putting together a list of my top 10 Christmas movies. I loved watching the trailers, it’s really got me in the festive spirit. Although Christmas won’t be the same in 2020 for a lot of people, let’s make it super festive and watch some amazing Christmas movies. Have I mentioned any of your fave films? What are you favourite Christmas movies?

I have a similar post up for my top 10 horror movies, if scary movies are more your thing.
