Estrid Razor Review- Is this Brand Really Worth the Hype?

My experience of the Estrid razor got off to a rocky start. Featuring razor burn, bumps and rashes. Read on to hear my full thoughts on the Estrid Razor and if my opinion was turned around…

Hello blogging world! It’s been a while since I last shared a post on my website. Firstly, I want to apologise for the radio silence. I don’t have an excuse for where I’ve been over the last couple of months, other than I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired, or motivated to post. Life hasn’t been hectic or anything, but I am back to working in the office a couple of days per week, so the last thing I wanted to do was write blog posts of an evening. I hope I can get back into the swing of things, but don’t plan on setting myself any major blogging goals, I don’t want to overwhelm my little brain just yet. Anyway, I’m rambling a bit now, so I’m going to get on with why you are actually here. To read my opinion on Hey Estrid.

Disclosure – this isn’t an AD, I purchased the razor with my own money. I thought I’d share this as I know quite a few bloggers have worked with Estrid previously, and I don’t want people to think I’m not disclosing any gifted/paid collaborations.

Who are Estrid?

If you have lived under a rock for the last couple of years, you may not have heard of Estrid. Estrid is a razor subscription for those who want to remove their body hair. The razors are designed with 5 sharp blades, to give you the smoothest/closest shave possible. Estrid are a vegan and cruelty free brand, they don’t use any animal by products and test on humans, not animals.

The Estrid subscription service is tailored to your shaving needs. If you shave every day, a few times per week, or once a week, Estrid has a plan that will suit you. I personally shave a couple of times per week, so my replacement blades are sent out every 2 months.

When you sign up to Estrid for the first time, you can choose the colour of the razor you would like. There are so many different colours to select, including: Matcha (green), Bloom (light pink), Cloud (grey), Space (lialic/blue), Peach, Lemonade (yellow). I opted for Lemonade.

Estrid Razor Review

I had high hopes for the Estrid razor, having seen so many bloggers, influencers and YouTubers talking about how this razor was going to change my life. I debated with myself for so long, before finally deciding to subscribe. The razor I was using at the time just wasn’t doing it for me, so a shaving switch up was required.

Firstly, the order process online was very easy and user friendly. The steps were short and simple, no complicated, long winded questionaires to complete, just a couple of quickfire questions to determine the right plan for me. My starter kit arrived within a few days of ordering and delivery is free.

The razor itself is weighty and of high quality. I could definitely tell the difference between the Estrid razor component, compared with the my usual razor. The Estrid starter kit comes with a handy holder that sticks to the wall, preventing me from forgetting to take it into the shower with me.

The first time I used the Estrid Razor, I made sure to lather my legs up with plenty of shower gel before proceeding with shaving. I must admit, I was impressed by how smooth the blades glided along my skin, but within a few moments I noticed that I’d developed a small cut on my leg. This rarely happened with my old razor, so I was quite surprised when this occured.

After my shower, I always put on some form of body lotion or moisturiser. After applying, my legs started to sting like crazy and after around 20-30 minutes I noticed a shaving rash and small bumps to my legs. Obviously I was really disappointed about this, but didn’t want to make a negative judgement on the Estrid razor too soon.

My initial experience of the Estrid razor certainly wasn’t what I expected it to be. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to continue using it. I shaved under my arms with the razor, again with plenty of soap. In the middle of the night I was woken up by a really panful itching armpit. When I looked at this in the mirror, I noticed a similar shaving rash to what appeared on my legs. Considering how much hype the brand and products were receiving across social media, I was quite shocked that I was experiencing this.

The next few times I was shaving, I made sure to exfoliate the areas beforehand and added even more body wash to assist the razor glide across my skin. I did notice a difference this time, no cuts, no stinging, just smooth shaved legs. I’ve clearly been doing it wrong the entire time! I don’t want to sound as though I’m exaggerating, but my legs genuinely feel like a dolphins back after shaving, so shiny, so smooth. I’m starting to understand the hype now. For my under arms, I followed the same preparation routine as I had done for my legs. However, I also used a lighter hand when shaving, used less shaving strokes and was extra gentle when tackling this area. Finally, I have cracked it! No more razor burn on my arm pits anymore.

At first I was so disappointed, but now I am well and truly obsessed. I feel like there’s a technique to shaving with this razor, more preparation is required then other razors I’ve used, but the effort truly is worth it for the end result.

Did you experience any of the same issues with the Estrid razor like I did? What are your true and honest thoughts on the Estrid Razor?

Jolie Beauty Highlighters

I worked with Jolie Beauty a year or so ago now, on a few of their campaigns. My favourite product being their Second Skin Powder Highlighters. The shade ‘Saintly’ is now a staple in my collection and I wear it the majority of the time I put on makeup. Jolie Beauty also have some lovely eyelashes and eyeshadow palettes which would also make wonderful Valentine’s Day gifts. All of their cosmetics are cruelty free too, which is a HUGE bonus. I’m also fully aware that the image below is Christmas themed, it’s from my post I did with them for the highlighter campaign.

Cook a fancy meal for your partner

If going out for food l isn’t on the cards this Valentine’s Day, then why not cook a nice meal for your partner. I know this isn’t really a ‘gift’ but it’s something that your other half would definitely love, especially if they are the chef in the household. If cooking isn’t your strongest suit, some supermarkets offer Valentine’s Day meal deals, which are super affordable, a lot cheaper than booking a table at a restaurant. I’ve had the M&S Valentine’s meal in the past, I think it’s around £20. It usually comes with a starter, main, side, dessert, wine (or soft drinks) and chocolates. Although we are no longer in lockdown, I created a list of Valentine’s date ideas in 2021, but they can still apply if you’re not planning to go out and about this year.

Gifts for the wanderluster

Is your partner a travel addict or hasn’t satisfied their travel bug since the pandemic began? I’ve got some great recommendations here that will certainly please them.

Is your other half a car fanatic? Look no further than Inspire Me Travel’s Classic Car Experience. Driving through Provence in the South of France, admiring the scenic landscape, whilst enjoying the thrill of a vintage classic car, what more could you want this Valentine’s Day.

Now we all know Italy is a vibrant country full of good food and wine. Take a 4-night Florence city break, including a full-day of wine tasting and lunch in the unforgettable village of Volpaia in Tuscany. How utterly romantic does this sound!

The romantic city of Venice is the perfect place for a couple’s getaway. Spend 3 nights at the 5-star Ca Sagredo Hotel with canal view and a 30 minute private Gondola ride and private return water taxi transfers.

A family friendly trip / adventure filled couples weekend

Center Parcs isn’t just for family’s, my boyfriend and I have visited countless times as a couple. There’s so much to do, plenty of fun activities, and spaces to relax and unwind. I have a full post on my experience at Center Parcs Sherwood Forest in Nottingham.

Everyday Essentials gifts

Personally, I think gifting someone everyday essentials is really thoughtful. Picking out items that they use daily and creating a self-care/essentials hamper is a great gift. My mum does this for me every Christmas, and it always includes products such as tampons, nail polish remove, festive chocolates, skincare etc.

WUKA Period Underwear

The people at WUKA believe that periods should not cost the earth. This is a statement I can fully get behind. Sustainability and helping to keep our environment in tact is something that we should all strive to achieve. Making small changes, can have a huge beneficial impact on the world around us. WUKA specialise in sustainable period underwear, helping people who menstruate be more environmentally friendly. Every pair of WUKA is ethically crafted using sustainably sourced materials. Each pair can be reused again and again for over 2 years, replacing over 200 or more disposable pads & tampons. With a variety of styles and absorbencies, there is a style for everyone. I think WUKA would make the perfect self-care treat for yourself this Valentine’s Day. You are number 1, take the time to prioritise yourself and practice self-love, by investing in period underwear. They will save the planet and your wallet in the long run.

Affordable Valentine’s Day Gifts

You don’t need to splash the cash to show someone that you love and appreciate them. I’ve created a short list of more affordable Valentine’s gifts for those on a tighter budget.

Make a photo album

Personalised gifts are often a crowd pleaser. I think creating a photo album of your favourite moments together as a couple (or friends) adds such a cute personal touch. Looking through old photographs is something I personally love to do. It’s easy to print photographs, there are plenty of websites to use to do this for you. Simply upload your favourite pictures, on some sites this can be done directly from your phone, and have them delivered to your address. I think some printers allow you to choose the type of paper they are printed on e.g. glossy or matte. Pick up a nice album and simply pop the pictures inside. You could even write a personalised note under each image, making the gift even more romantic.

Photo Album

Flowers and chocolates

Thoughtful gifts don’t have to be expensive. Pick up a bunch of your partners favourite flowers, or even a cute house plant to brighten up the home. Flowers and house plants can be bought at the majority of supermarkets, and often range from £3 – £15, depending on the size of the bouquet. You could also purchase a pretty vase/plant pot to display your gift. A tasty box of chocolates or a little hamper filled with sweet treats, are always a winner, in my eyes anyway.

I hope you’ve managed to find something that your better half will love this Valentine’s Day. I feel that all of the gifts I’ve mentioned would be perfect all year round, and I’d certainly like to be gifted everything I’ve mentioned at some point. Thank you to all the brands who reached out and wanted to take part, it really means a lot. Thank you to my lovely readers too, for always supporting me and my little blog!

The Best Affordable Skincare

Being on a tight budget doesn’t mean that you need to compromise on the quality of your skincare products. In this quick skincare guide, I’ll be sharing some affordable skincare to suit anyone’s budget.

Being on a tight budget doesn’t mean that you need to compromise on the quality of your skincare products. If you didn’t already know, I purchased my first home back in June. So as you can imagine, my bank balance isn’t as full as it used to be. That being said, I never particularly splurged out on my skincare, only the occasional high-end product would make it into my collection, as I’ve always been particularly careful of how I spend my money.

Now I know you didn’t come here to learn about my spending habits, so I better get a move on and talk about the main reason you are reading this post…The Best Affordable Skincare products!

Cleansers

After reading skinCARE: The ultimate no-nonsense guide, I decided to only purchase ‘cheap’ cleansers. Caroline Hirons made a perfectly valid point on cleansers. Why waste money on an expensive cleanser when it basically gets washed down the drain, I couldn’t agree more! In this section, I will share some affordable effective cleanser products to help keep the skin clean and clear.

Lacura Moisturising Face Wash – 99p

Lacura Moisturising Face Wash

Yes. You did read that correctly. Just 99p for a face wash! Lacura is Aldi’s very own affordable skincare brand. The brand features a range of products (I will be including some more of their products further into this post) to meet everyone’s skincare requirements. This cleanser lathers up into a sort of foam, it doesn’t strip the skin and make it feel dry either. The Lacura Face Wash reminds me of the Simple Moisturising Facial Wash, it’s almost identical, but a lot cheaper. Lacura are also cruelty free, making it a well-rounded ethical and budget friendly brand. This face wash contains Pro-Vitamin B5, Vitamin B3 and Bisabolol and is 100% soap free, making it suitable for all skin types.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser – £9.50 or £15 (depending on size)

This cleanser definitely isn’t as cheap as the first, but is really good. If you’re not a fan of foaming cleansers, then the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser would be perfect for you. It comes in two sizes of varying prices. Whilst £15 might seem expensive for a cleanser, it lasts a really long time, so is a great investment. The smaller size cleanser is more affordable, retailing for around £9.50.

Serums

I had never really incorporated serums into my skincare routine until around 18 months ago. When the pandemic hit, I was thrust into working from home full-time, so I wasn’t wearing makeup as often. I decided to concentrate on skincare more, and that’s when I discovered serums…they are life changing! My skin has never looked better.

Revolution Skincare 3% Vitamin C Serum – £8.00

Revolution Vitamin C Radiance Serum

I picked this serum up randomly one day when I was browsing the shelves in Superdrug, and I am so glad I did. My skin seems to love Vitamin C, whenever I use a Vitamin C skincare product my skin glows! This serum is ideal for boosting radiance and I certainly notice how the texture of my skin improves. This was my first time trying a Revolution Skincare product, I have been completely blown away but the quality and affordability. All Revolution Skincare products are vegan and cruelty free!

Lacura Q10 Multi-Intensive Serum – £2.99

Lacura Q10 Serum

Another of Aldi’s fantastic bargain skincare items, that you must add to your cosmetics drawer. The packaging of this Q10 serum is very similar to Nivea’s Q10 range! This serum claims to help smooth skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines. Whilst I cannot particularly comment on the improvement of fine lines and wrinkles (given that I have just turned 25), I can certainly mention how brightening and smoothing this serum is. I actually find it to be very hydrating and it has the most beautiful refreshing scent!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum – £5.90

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

This next serum needs no introduction, as I feel it is included in everyone’s skincare routine. Hyaluronic Acid is a staple product for me, I use it daily, morning and evening. It’s a hydrating serum, I was always a little apprehensive about including such a hydrating product into my skincare, because of my oily skin, but I had nothing to fear. Although moisturising, this hyaluronic acid is by no means ‘oily’, so it doesn’t add a greasy shine to the skin. It’s like a glass of water for your skin, it sinks deep into the skin and creates a natural looking glow.

Moisturiser

Okay so I’m a little gutted about this next one. I had another Aldi Lacura product lined up to discuss, but it appears to be discontinued, although my local Aldi do still have this in stock. I only purchased mine about 3-4 months ago as well, it was their Q10 Renew Night Cream, but there isn’t much point in me talking about it now. It’s pretty rubbish when you find a product that works and it gets discontinued.

Cetraben Cream – £4.99

Cetraben Cream

For many years I have suffered with eczema flare ups on various parts of my body, particularly my face and hands. I need to use prescribed steroid creams from the chemist to clear up the worst episodes. However, I find that the Cetraben Cream is wonderful for soothing those itchy bouts of eczema or dermatitis. It’s a rather oily greasy cream, so use sparingly on the face if you have oily or combination skin. I tried this cream for the first time in one of my GLOSSYBOX subscriptions a few months back, and I have been using it ever since.

So there you have it, I’ve featured six affordable skincare products to suit even the tightest of budgets. I adore each and every one of these skincare products and cannot recommend them enough. I am always bargain hunting to find affordable yet effective beauty products. Have you tried any of the products I’ve mentioned? Do you have any cheap beauty favourites that you swear by? I’d love to chat everything skincare in the comments, Twitter or Instagram!

PMD Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth Review

AD / Everyone should be making an effort to become more eco-friendly. But why stop when it comes to a beauty routine. PMD have the answer to this with their sustainable Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth. Read my review to find out more!

AD – In my opinion, everyone should be making an effort to help the planet and become a tad more environmentally friendly. Whether that be by using reusable shopping bags, no waste period products, or simply recycling plastics and glass. If you could create a more eco-friendly beauty routine, would you?

I certainly love to incorporate products or beauty tools into my daily routine, that not only benefit me, but the world around me too. PMD Beauty have launched a new quick and easy sustainable way to wipe away makeup, with their Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth. This cloth is reusable so can be used time and time again, without having a negative impact on the environment.

PMD Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth

The cloth itself is made up of tiny microfibres that, when wet, cling to makeup and gently lift it from the skin. Due to the nature of the microfibre properties, creams or oils are not required to remove even the most stubborn of makeup. Simply use with warm water and your skin will be makeup free in a matter of moments. Not only does the Silverpure™ help the planet, it will also help your wallet! Retailing for £28.00, you will save so much by avoiding wasteful makeup wipes and other makeup removing products.

Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth

Worried about hygiene? As the name suggests the Silverpure™ is infused with actual Silver! Silver is antibacterial and will not harbour or spread any bacteria, making it incredibly hygienic.

I have used the PMD makeup removing cloth quite a lot already and it has gone through the washing machine countless times, but still works just as well as its first usage. It removes makeup thoroughly without the need for additional cleansing products. It is gentle on the skin and the cloth is very soft, making it perfect for sensitive skin. Although I haven’t travelled much recently, I will definitely be taking the Silverpure™ Makeup Removing Cloth on any future vacations. If I need to pack light, the Silverpure™ would make the best travel companion!

Silverpure™ Directions for Use

I feel very lucky to have worked with PMD for the third time. I think they are a great brand, with some fantastic beauty tools. The PMD Personal Microderm is perfect for improving the texture of the skin. The PMD Clean Body creates a relaxing bathtime routine, whilst also keeping the skin fresh and supple.

PMD Clean Body: Is it Worth it?

The PMD Clean Body has been a popular skincare device in the blogging community for so long now. Read on to find out if I’m a fan!

This post contains gifted products

Last year, I was lucky enough to partner with PMD Beauty to test out there Personal Microderm device, which I am now fully obsessed with! Recently, PMD asked if I wanted to work them again to try out their Clean Body, which of course, I couldn’t turn down.

The PMD Clean Body has been a popular skincare device in the blogging community for so long now, and I can fully see why. The device has four different vibration settings and comes with magnetic interchangeable heads, depending on your skincare needs.

Magnetic Attachments

Cleanse

The cleanse setting is equipped with soft silicone bristles which gently cleanse the entire body. The bristles are anti-bacterial, hypoallergenic and odour resistant. Personally, I’ve used the cleanse setting on my face to give myself a mini facial, using the lowest vibration. I found it to be very gentle and my skin felt cleaner than ever after use. If you’d prefer a skincare device specific to your face, why not try the PMD Clean instead.

Gentle Exfoliation

The Silver Infused Loofah is anti-bacterial and exfoliates the skin without spreading bacteria. This head is perfect for an all-over body cleanse, I’d suggest switching up the vibration settings for a luxurious and relaxing shower. The Silverscrub lathers up shower gel nicely and isn’t harsh on the skin at all.

PMD Clean Body with attachments:

Cleanse
Gentle Exfoliation
Intense Exfoliation
Massage

Intense Exfoliation

I LOVE this attachment! It’s definitely an intense exfoliation, but leaves my skin super soft whenever I use it. It isn’t something I would use daily, maybe once or twice per week. I can get dry skin and small bumps on my arms and legs (Keratosis Pilaris), and the intense exfoliation attachment helped to smooth out my skin. This is also perfect to use during a pedicure to remove any hard callous skin from the feet.

Massage

Using the PMD Clean Body is pretty sensual anyway, but the Relax Body Massager Head will leave you in a state of blissful relaxation. The massager can be used in the shower, and with moisturiser or body oil! The handle is long enough to massage your entire back. It is particularly nice to use after a workout, as it helps to relieve tight muscles.

The Review

Despite being expensive (retailing for £145), the PMD Clean Body is definitely a great investment, once you start using it, you will be hooked from the get go. The device is chargeable and takes around 3hrs for a full charge. A charging USB cable is supplied, and can be inserted into bottom of the device.

PMD Clean Body USB Charging Cable

Of course the Clean Body is completely waterproof so can be used in the bath or shower, without fear of damage (or electricution). Not only can it be used in water, but can be used dry, to massage the skin or with moisturiser, as mentioned earlier.

I adore finding new ways to improve my self care routine, the PMD Clean Body is the perfect bodycare device to use when winding down of an evening. Not only does it give you squeaky clean skin, but helps aid relaxtion. I’m dying to run myself a warm bubble bath, read a book and use the Clean Body for a super chilled bedtime routine.

How to Care for Pale Skin in the Sun

Protecting our skin against the sun during the Summer is extremely important, especially for those that burn easily. My 6 tips will leave you will gorgeous sunkissed skin, with no sunburn in sight!

The warmer months have finally arrived! This is welcomed news for many, however if you have fair skin, which burns easily, you may not be too pleased. Do you struggle with sun burn in the summer? Or do you simply not tan? I’m here today to provide you with some tips to care for pale skin in the summer sunshine.

Nobody wants to get painful sunburn, prickly heat or skin peeling from sitting outside. Taking extra measures in your tanning routine can really help limit the chances of these things occurring. Being exposed to the sun for longer periods of time can have a massive impact throughout your life, the dangers of sunburn include premature wrinkling/ageing, increased risk of skin cancer. Once the damage is done to the skin, it is impossible to reverse. I am by no means trying to scare you, just simply laying out the facts, to encourage you to care for your skin. Over the years I have gotten sunburnt many times, including having sun stroke/heat stroke twice…both when I was much younger. I even got burnt badly last summer when I visited Cornwall.

This post contains items which were previously gifted as part of an Influenster Campaign

6 Tips for Caring for Pale/Fair Skin in the Summer

1. Use a high factor sun cream

Bondi Sands SPF 50+ Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion

This may seem like the obvious choice, but us pale skin people really should be using a factor 50+ sunscreen. For years I was using lower SPFs thinking I was more likely to tan, but that just wasn’t the case. When applying sun cream, make sure to top it up every 30 – 40 minutes of sun exposure, this will help maintain maximum protection. Use SPFs which are broad spectrum and protect against UVA and UVB rays. My current favourite suncreams are from Bondi Sands, I sat out in the sun for over 2 hours in 26 degree heat, topping up my cream regularly and I ended up with a sunkissed complexion, rather than burning,

2. Include SPF as part of your daily skincare routine

Bondi Sands Face SPF 50 + Broad Spectrum Sunscreen Lotion

Over the past 12 months I have noticed everyone trying to include SPF in the daily skincare routines, me being one of them. Adding this extra step will really help to protect the skin against sun damage and premature ageing. I have been using the Bondi Sands Face SPF 50+ Sunscreen Lotion most days, even when the sky is overcast, or raining! I have oily skin and this SPF works great underneath my makeup. I always use my trusty ELF Poreless Putty Primer over the top, and never have any issues with the primer and SPF splitting or pilling.

3. Don’t sit in the sun for prolonged periods of time

Photo by Ethan Robertson on Unsplash

Try to limit your sun exposure if you have fair skin. I understand that everyone wants to have a tan, but spending too much time in the sun can be harmful. If sunbathing in your garden, at a pool, or beach, make sure to have a shaded area easily available. When the sun is getting a tad too hot, you can take shelter in the shade to cool down. Still make sure to apply your sun cream in the shade though, the suns rays are very powerful.

4. Keep your head covered

Photo by 邱 严 on Unsplash

Make sure to have a cap or floppy hat to hand on a hot day. Hats will keep the sun out of your face and off your head, keeping you cooler and preventing scalp sunburn.

5. Don’t exfoliate your skin too often

Nobody wants dry cracked skin and it can be very tempting to over exfoliate our bodies to prevent this. However if you plan to sit out in the sun, don’t exfoliate all of the time. Exfoliation removes the top layer of skin, meaning it is more likely to burn. If you plan to exfoliate, make sure to regularly top up your sun cream, maybe more often than normal, to prevent burning,

6. Keep the skin hydrated with moisturiser and after sun

Mine Tan Rapid Recovery After Sun Gel

Caring for pale skin doesn’t stop when the sun goes in. After sun bathing, make sure to completely wash off any sun cream in the shower, this will prevent clogged pores. If using a facial SPF, double cleanse your skin with an oil/gel based cleanser, followed by your normal face wash. This will keep the skin clear and reduce the risk of breakouts. After the sunscreen has been completely washed away, go in with a thick hydrating moisturiser, or after sun if your skin is a little on the pink side. Lately, I’ve been using the Mine Tan Moisturzing After Sun Gel, which was in my May GLOSSYBOX and I love it! Drinking plenty of water throughout the day will also keep your skin in tip top condition.

I hope you found some new tips to help keep your skin safe this Summer. I swear by these steps, they have massively helped my skin and prevented sun burn over the past few weeks. Do you have any tips for protecting the skin against sunburn?

Beauty Products I Have Used Up – Empties | Part 4

Another empties post! I am flying through so many beauty items these days, don’t ask me how, were in another lockdown for crying out loud. This post features heavily on skincare for oily skin.

Another empties post! I am flying through so many beauty items these days, don’t ask me how, were in another lockdown for crying out loud. I am fully obsessed with skincare at the moment, so I have used quite a lot of skincare products over the recent months. This post contains products which were previously gifted.

Skincare Empties

Green People Hyaluronic Acid Booster Serum

Green People hyaluronic booster serum

I have a full review on the Hyaluronic Serum on the blog so I won’t go into too much detail, however this product has become a staple part of my skincare routine. Its lightweight non-sticky formula was perfect for my oily skin, meaning I could wear this alone or underneath makeup without looking shiny. I repurchased this a couple of weeks ago, and it has truly transformed my skin.

Green People Nordic Roots Apple Complex Moisturiser

Green People apple complex moisturiser

Every product I have tried from Green People has never failed me. I feel that other brands should take note of Green People’s natural and cruelty free skincare ranges, they are top quality products. I loved how hydrating the Apple Complex Moisturiser was, it was perfect as a night cream for my oily skin.

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

The Ordinary hyaluronic acid

Another Hyaluronic Acid product that I love is by The Ordinary. I prefer to use this of an evening as it’s heavier than the Green People one. There’s not much to be said about this acid, because it makes an appearance in pretty much in everyone’s skincare routine. If you haven’t already tried The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid, then you NEED to!

Caudalie Makeup Removing Cleansing Oil

Caudalie makeup removing cleansing oil

I’ve mentioned the Caudalie Cleansing Oil countless times on my blog, it’s such a great makeup remover. It isn’t harsh on my sensitive skin and removes every last morsel of makeup. This product has been a favourite of mine for years, I featured it in my 2019 favourites! I have two bottles of this lined up ready to use!

Pleanaire Rose Jelly Makeup Remover

Plenaire rose jelly makeup remover

I had never heard of Plenaire until I purchased the Cult Beauty Starter Kit in September. I was very impressed by the removal powers of the Pleanaire Rose Jelly, it helped to break down even the toughest of makeup. I loved the Rose scent too, it wasn’t too overpowering. I would look to repurchase in the future, but my go-to has to be the Caudalie Oil.

The Inkey List Caffeine Eye Cream

The Inkey List caffeine eye cream

This was another product I received in the Cult Beauty Starter Kit. The Caffeine Eye Cream by the Inkey List was really soothing and didn’t irritate my sensitive eye area, however I didn’t feel that it made a huge difference to my dark circles. Because of this, I am unlikely to re-buy again.

ECooking Moisturizing Serum

ECOOKING moisturizing serum

ECooking is a new brand to me, their Moisturizing Serum was in my January Glossybox. I found the texture very similar to hyaluronic acid, it was hydrating and moisturising and pretty much had the same effects. This is an expensive product, and because of it’s similarities to cheaper hyaluronic acids, I probably won’t repurchase.

GlamGlow Super Serum

GlamGlow superserum

GlamGlow have some wonderful products, especially their SuperMud Mask, and the Super Serum is no exception. It is lilac in colour and very gentle on the skin, despite containing 5 different acids. I’d definitely pick this up again!

Farsarli Rose Gold Elixir

Farsarli Rose Gold Elixir

My oily skin peeps don’t need to run a mile from the Rose Gold Elixir, despite being an oil, it is fantastic for oily skin. My skin looked radient and bright whenever I used this during my skincare routine. It’s a pricy product, but definitely worth it if you’re wanting to look like a glowing goddess.

No7 Nourishing Melting Gel Cleanser

No7 melting gel cleanser

I received this cleanser in a mini No7 set at Christmas. This gel based cleanser worked well to break down my makeup, leaving me with clean shiny skin. I found that the gel cleanser irritated my eyes massively if I tried to remove my mascara and eye makeup. For that reason, I wouldn’t repurchase as my Caudalie cleanser doesn’t irritate my eyes at all.

Bodycare Empties

Lotil Original Cream

Lotil Original cream

If you suffer with dry, cracked hands, then Lotil Cream will help to keep your hands nourished and hydrated. Available in various sizes, Lotil has you covered for every occasion, from small handy travel sized tubes, to gigantic family sized tubs, Lotil has got it all. The cream doesn’t have the most pleasing scent, but it gets rid of dry hands in a matter of seconds.

Woo Woo Gentle Micellar Wash

Woo Woo gentle micellar wash

Woo Woo offer a wide range of feminine care products. The Gentle Micellar Wash can be used as an overall body wash too which is a massive plus. The wash contains soothing Aloe Vera meaning it is great for our intimate areas. Although it doesn’t have much of scent, my body felt super clean and fresh after using. Woo Woo also have an intimate hair removal cream, this is very affordable, much cheaper than salon treatments.

Shea Moisture African Water Mint and Ginger Detox Body Wash

Shea Moisture African water mint and ginger detox body wash

I loved the scent of this body wash, it wasn’t too overpowering and the scent lingered on my skin for a few hours after showering. I featured Shea Moisture in my 2020 Christmas Gift Guide, as they have some beautful bath/bodycare products available.

Makeup Empties

Avon Mark Magix Face Primer

Avon Magix face primer

Having oily skin I’m always searching for a oil controlling primer, and this one by Avon really hit the nail on the end. The Magix primer magicked away my prominent pores and helped keep the shine at by throughout the day. Although I loved this primer, I won’t be repurchasing, purely because I am trying to get most of my makeup and skincare cruelty free.

L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Matte Foundation

L'Oreal Infallible 24hr matte foundation

Over the years I have emptied countless tubes of this foundation, but I stopped using it for some unbeknown reason. I recently decided to start using this again, it was probably way past its used by date. I can hand on heart say that I still love this foundation, it has medium to full coverage and definitely keeps my skin matte for hours, definitely the perfect foundation for oily skin. Unfortunately L’Oreal isn’t cruelty free, so I’m probably not going to pick this up for a while. I do have a darker shade of this foundation for the summer months, but I doubt I’ll be tanned enough to use it…I am extremely pale!

My empties have accumulated over the past few months, I haven’t finished them all at the the same time. I’m astonished by the amount of skincare products I have managed to use up since my last empties post. You can definitely tell we have been in a 3 month lockdown by how few makeup empties I have this month.

The Best Cruelty Free Skincare Products

Do you find yourself asking, what skincare brands are cruelty free? This post will give you insight into cruelty free beauty brands, and the top cruelty free skincare products to lookout for!

It is 2021 and animal testing on cosmetics is still a common occurrence, it is such a cruel and unnecessary process, especially in the beauty industry. In today’s post, I am going to be sharing some of the best cruelty free skincare products that you need to be adding to your collection.

Before I share my list of cruelty free skincare products, animal testing on beauty products is mandatory in China. China are one of the few countries where its laws requires all imported beauty products to be tested on animals. So basically, any brand that sells its products in China is likely to have been tested on animals. When searching for new skincare/makeup products, look out for the Cruelty Free Logo, it usually has an image of a little cartoon rabbit.

Cruelty Free Skincare Products YOU Need to Try!

Green People Hyaluronic Booster Serum

Green People Nordic Roots Hyaluronic Acid Booster Serum

I have mentioned this Green People serum on my blog so many times over the past few months, because it truly is a wonderful everyday serum. Its lightweight formula is perfect for applying before makeup, or to use alone on bare skin. It’s non-greasy, and despite being containing hyaluronic acid, it does not make the skin any oilier. This is the best hyaluronic acid serum I have ever tried! This serum contains Hop Flowers which are used to treat hyperpigmentation and age spots. Literally as I was writing about this, I went onto the Green People website and bought myself another!

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid

Another amazing hyaluronic acid is by The Ordinary. The Ordinary are a chemistry brand that offer products with proven clinical benefits without the expensive price tag. So, if affordable skincare is something you are interested in, then The Ordinary will have you covered. I don’t want to go into too much detail about hyaluronic acid because I have spoken about it so much on my blog already, it’s a product I use regularly in my skincare routine. The Ordinary not only create incredible products but are HUGELY against animal testing, therefore they do not export their products to mainland China and/or other countries where animal testing is required by law.

No7 Youthful Replenishing Face Oil

No7 Youthful Replenishing Face Oil

I did not realise that No7 was a cruetly free brand until recently, and I am so thrilled to hear this. I started testing out their Youthful Replenishing Face Oil in December, and it truly is wonderful. I like to apply this during my evening skincare routine, but will also apply in the morning if my skin is looking a little dull and dry. Although an oil, it isn’t greasy when applied sparingly and will leave the skin with a gorgeous glow.

No7 Protect and Perfect Day and Night Cream

No 7 Protect and Perfect Intense Advanced Day and Night Cream

Similarly to the face oil, I have been trying the No7 Protect and Perfect day and night creams since last year. I received sample sized version in a gift set. The day and night cream and really hydrating and nourishing, without giving me an oily complexion. The day cream contains SPF 15, which does not leave a white cast to the skin.

Pixi BeautifEYE Brightening Eye Patches

Pixi Beautifeye Brightening Eye Patches

Pixi Beauty are a brand who need no introduction. I have been obsessed with the Glow Tonic for almost a year now, and recently picked up their Brightening Eye Patches. I love using the eye patches as a little morning treat, they are very cooling so are great to use at the start of the day, to de-puff and wake up the eye area.

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser

Over the past 4 or 5 months my skin has become extremely sensitive, so I wanted to switch up my cleanser. I fell in love with the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser because of its gentle formula. This cleanser is fragrance free and non-comedogenic meaning it is perfect for sensitive skin. Although designed for normal to dry skin, I find that the hydrating cleanser works well on my oily/combination skin.

The Inkey List Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer

The Inkey List Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer

Another brand who have recently piqued the interests of us beauty bloggers is The Inkey List. Their Vitamin B, C and E Moisturizer has a plethora of delightful benefits, including anti-inflammatory properties from Vitamin E and brightening from Vitamin C. This multi-functional moisturiser can be used day and night, so you won’t need to break the bank by purchasing two separate creams. The vitamin moisturisers retails for just £4.99, it is a complete bargain!

Lotil Cream*

Original Lotil Cream

Last year, I posted a review of Lotil Cream and how it fared with eczema and sensitive skin. Since then, I have been using Lotil as part of my regular body and skincare routine. It is a thick cream which works well at soothing dry, irritated skin, it is also completely cruelty free. The cream can be used on the face and body, and can be purchased in various travel friendly sizes. Lotil also have a lip balm and foot cream in their collection!

I am hoping you have found some new cruelty free skincare products that you can now include in your everyday skincare routine. I use these products all of the time but am always on the lookout for other cruelty free brands to add to my collection, if you have any recommendations, please feel free to share them with me. I have put together a list of cruelty free beauty brands for you below. The next time you plan to buy some new skincare or makeup, consult this list and consider going cruelty free.

The Original Soap Brow – West Barn Co Review

Today’s post is a guest post written by Lauren from Wool of the King. Lauren will be sharing her opinion on the famous Original Soap Brow from West Barn Co!

Guest Post

Hi everyone, I’m Lauren from Wool of the King and I’m really excited to be writing for Kelly’s blog. As I don’t write as much about beauty as I’d like to, it’s really great to be reviewing a makeup product.

Since the first lockdown, I haven’t bothered wearing much makeup and have been embracing the natural look. That is mainly because I don’t have anywhere to go, and it feels like I’m wasting makeup if I wear it and stay at home.

Even when I’m not going anywhere or seeing anyone, I like to keep my brows tidy. I have been using the same Maybelline brow pencil since school and I haven’t really used anything else. Over recent months, I have seen a lot of people using The Original Soap Brow product from West Barn Co, so I thought I’d try it out. It retails on BeautyBay for £12.50 and it comes with a spoolie brush.

The Original Soap Brows

For best results, I’d recommend using a facial mist/spray so it isn’t as dry. That way, it will apply better. My brow hairs can be quite unruly, and Soap Brows are great at sticking them in place. Also, only a small amount is required, so I can tell this product is going to last a long time.

There are other similar products on the market, which are a lot cheaper than Soap Brows. I’ve seen people use the Pear’s Amber soap from Boots which retails for just £1.20 for 2 soaps. So it all depends on how much you are willing to spend. I haven’t actually tried a cheaper version like the Pear’s soap, but I’ve seen people use it on TikTok and their eyebrows look fab.

Although I’m yet to try another version of Soap Brows, the results don’t look too different. I would really recommend Soap Brows, but I would encourage people to try cheaper versions first, as they often give similar results.

This product stays on my eyebrows all day and keeps them in place, giving the desired effect. I’m really glad I got to try Soap Brows because I’ve been wanting to for quite a while now.

Jolie Beauty Faux Mink False Lashes Review

AD // I have partnered with Jolie Beauty to showcase their stunning collection of 4D Luxury Faux Mink Lashes and Lash Lock Glue.

AD // Contains gifted items in exchange for a review – all opinions are my own.

False lashes are the ultimate icing on the cake when applying makeup. Lashes can completely change up your entire face and can take a makeup look from day to night in a matter of minutes. I typically only wear false lashes when I’m hitting the town, but with the global pandemic making this impossible right now, I’ve been rocking the falsies to my local supermarket…needs must, am I right?

I have partnered with Jolie Beauty to showcase their stunning collection of 4D Luxury Faux Mink Lashes. The Mink industry is extremely disgusting and inhumane, so I’m so glad Jolie Beauty have created a line of cruelty-free and vegan false lashes. Apparently, each pair of their lashes can be used up to 30 times, and with a price tag of £9.99 per pack you are getting a huge bargain.

The Review

I have always struggled to apply false lashes. After years of practice, I am still no better at it then when I first started wearing makeup, so it did take me a while to apply them.

I was kindly gifted 4 pairs of the 4D Faux Mink Lashes in the following styles: Lillie, Vivienne, April and Melody. I was also sent the Jolie Beauty Lash Lock clear eyelash glue. The lashes themselves are quite long, even the most subtle pair (Lillie) are very dramatic. I also had to cut them to size, but this is pretty standard with false lashes.

Now, I always pride myself in being 100% honest with my audience, so with that being said, the Lash Lock glue just didn’t work for me. I followed the instructions, applied the glue to the lash band and waited over 30 seconds for the glue to become tacky, however the lashes would not stick down properly at all. I managed to apply one lash using the Jolie Beauty glue, but I couldn’t get the second lash to stay put. I had to use my own lash glue to get this to work instead.

Apart from my disaster with the glue, the quality of the lashes are really good, considering how affordable they are. I do have one negative thing to add here though, I wasn’t particularly fond of the clear band. Surprisingly, I found it more noticeable than when black lash bands are used, but the problem was easily solved with a little eyeliner.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I really like the faux mink lashes. They are a little more dramatic to what I’m normally accustomed to, but they are very stunning. I shared a photograph of me wearing the gorgeous style Lillie over on my Instagram. Lillie and April are my two favourite styles. It would be great if Jolie Beauty launched half lashes or more wearable everyday lashes.

Sadly, I was left disappointed with the Lash Lock glue, but I will continue to play around with it to see if I can make it work.

Do you like the look of Jolie Beauty’s Faux Mink Lashes? What are your favourite style?
