Estrid Razor Review- Is this Brand Really Worth the Hype?

Hello blogging world! It’s been a while since I last shared a post on my website. Firstly, I want to apologise for the radio silence. I don’t have an excuse for where I’ve been over the last couple of months, other than I wasn’t feeling particularly inspired, or motivated to post. Life hasn’t been hectic or anything, but I am back to working in the office a couple of days per week, so the last thing I wanted to do was write blog posts of an evening. I hope I can get back into the swing of things, but don’t plan on setting myself any major blogging goals, I don’t want to overwhelm my little brain just yet. Anyway, I’m rambling a bit now, so I’m going to get on with why you are actually here. To read my opinion on Hey Estrid.

Disclosure – this isn’t an AD, I purchased the razor with my own money. I thought I’d share this as I know quite a few bloggers have worked with Estrid previously, and I don’t want people to think I’m not disclosing any gifted/paid collaborations.

Who are Estrid?

If you have lived under a rock for the last couple of years, you may not have heard of Estrid. Estrid is a razor subscription for those who want to remove their body hair. The razors are designed with 5 sharp blades, to give you the smoothest/closest shave possible. Estrid are a vegan and cruelty free brand, they don’t use any animal by products and test on humans, not animals.

The Estrid subscription service is tailored to your shaving needs. If you shave every day, a few times per week, or once a week, Estrid has a plan that will suit you. I personally shave a couple of times per week, so my replacement blades are sent out every 2 months.

When you sign up to Estrid for the first time, you can choose the colour of the razor you would like. There are so many different colours to select, including: Matcha (green), Bloom (light pink), Cloud (grey), Space (lialic/blue), Peach, Lemonade (yellow). I opted for Lemonade.

Estrid Razor Review

I had high hopes for the Estrid razor, having seen so many bloggers, influencers and YouTubers talking about how this razor was going to change my life. I debated with myself for so long, before finally deciding to subscribe. The razor I was using at the time just wasn’t doing it for me, so a shaving switch up was required.

Firstly, the order process online was very easy and user friendly. The steps were short and simple, no complicated, long winded questionaires to complete, just a couple of quickfire questions to determine the right plan for me. My starter kit arrived within a few days of ordering and delivery is free.

The razor itself is weighty and of high quality. I could definitely tell the difference between the Estrid razor component, compared with the my usual razor. The Estrid starter kit comes with a handy holder that sticks to the wall, preventing me from forgetting to take it into the shower with me.

The first time I used the Estrid Razor, I made sure to lather my legs up with plenty of shower gel before proceeding with shaving. I must admit, I was impressed by how smooth the blades glided along my skin, but within a few moments I noticed that I’d developed a small cut on my leg. This rarely happened with my old razor, so I was quite surprised when this occured.

After my shower, I always put on some form of body lotion or moisturiser. After applying, my legs started to sting like crazy and after around 20-30 minutes I noticed a shaving rash and small bumps to my legs. Obviously I was really disappointed about this, but didn’t want to make a negative judgement on the Estrid razor too soon.

My initial experience of the Estrid razor certainly wasn’t what I expected it to be. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and decided to continue using it. I shaved under my arms with the razor, again with plenty of soap. In the middle of the night I was woken up by a really panful itching armpit. When I looked at this in the mirror, I noticed a similar shaving rash to what appeared on my legs. Considering how much hype the brand and products were receiving across social media, I was quite shocked that I was experiencing this.

The next few times I was shaving, I made sure to exfoliate the areas beforehand and added even more body wash to assist the razor glide across my skin. I did notice a difference this time, no cuts, no stinging, just smooth shaved legs. I’ve clearly been doing it wrong the entire time! I don’t want to sound as though I’m exaggerating, but my legs genuinely feel like a dolphins back after shaving, so shiny, so smooth. I’m starting to understand the hype now. For my under arms, I followed the same preparation routine as I had done for my legs. However, I also used a lighter hand when shaving, used less shaving strokes and was extra gentle when tackling this area. Finally, I have cracked it! No more razor burn on my arm pits anymore.

At first I was so disappointed, but now I am well and truly obsessed. I feel like there’s a technique to shaving with this razor, more preparation is required then other razors I’ve used, but the effort truly is worth it for the end result.
