At the start of 2021, I decided to set myself 3 achievable goals that I wanted to focus on throughout the next 12 months. When I shared this online, I received a comment from a fellow blogger who suggested I posted updates on my journey after a few months. So here I am to give you a little update on my goals.
Read some of my book every day
I set a Goodreads target for the year as a modest 10 books, I don’t usually read this many in a year so I thought this was reasonable. I shared the books I wanted to read this year on the blog, and in January I managed read 2 1/2 books.
In February, I finished my 3rd book and began reading Death in Springtime, however I could not for the life of me engage with this story. I found it overly descriptive with so much unecessary speech, so for a few days I found myself not picking it up. In the end I decided to scrap the book entirely and start with another The Holiday by T.M. Logan, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
On the days that I didn’t read a physcial book, I did read blog posts, so I was technically still reading. I was disappointed that I struggled with Death in Springtime and I really don’t think I’ll pick it back up.
In March, I really struggled to read. I want to be completely honest with you, and I only read my book a handful of times. I didn’t do much blogging in March either, I lost my motivation. Now that April is here I want to get my reading mojo back. I’m currently reading The Polish Detective by Hania Allen which is actually super interesting. I recently bought The Midnight Library and Humans by Matt Haig which I’ve added to my TBR pile.
Do a full skincare routine morning and evening
I have really enjoyed sitting down of a morning and taking the time for my skin before starting my work day (from home). My skincare routine takes less than 5 minutes so it is very easy to follow. One morning, at the end of January, I woke up with a severe migraine, it was so bad that I could barely eat or get out of bed until the evening. That day, I ended up skipping my morning routine, but made the time in the evening, when I was feeling better, to concentrate on my skin.
Write a highlight of each day
This is one goal that I have managed to do every day without fail. At 9pm a reminder will go off on my phone, allowing me a few minutes to reflect on the day and pick a point which stood out to me. Don’t get me wrong, some days are especially difficult because of lockdown, so I did struggle to think of the positives on some days. I can tell that in 12 months time, I will be so glad I started this, it will be really fun to look back on in the future.
I did slip up on a couple of my goals, mainly the reading goal, however I am fully committed to sticking with each of them as much as I can in 2021. Did you set yourself any goals this year? How are you finding it?
Until Another Day x
That’s nice to catch up on your reading! Your skincare routine is also a nice goal to accomplish — it will pay off soon. I personally resonated with your third goal because I do that everyday (we’re the same). I don’t write it down though, but I do ponder on it. It’s so relaxing. Thanks for sharing!

Reading can be really enjoyable when you find a book you love. I am obsessed with skincare at the moment, taking the time for our skin definitely makes a difference. I can’t wait to look at my highlights this time next year x

Great idea for a post. It’s a great way to focus on your goals. If you enjoyed the Holiday, try the Catch. I loved that book! It was really good and I am looking forward to reading the Holiday.
I love that you’re sticking to your good thing each day. I do similar and have done since 2014, it really has changed my mindset!

Full skincare routines are so important, and I understand your pain with migraines, but as long as you do your best that is all that matters! I love the idea of highlighting each day, I feel like that will give you so many amazing things to look back on in the year!

I don’t get migraines that often but when I do I’m incapacitated for the entire day, I’m glad I managed to do my evening skincare that day though. Yeah I cannot wait to look back on this in a year!x

I love these goals! I too am trying to read some of my book everyday. I find it a great way to destress and it helps me sleep so I will always read in bed, even in the morning after a nightshift.

I’m so glad I’m sticking to it, some days can be really difficult, especially because we’ve been in lockdown. But taking those few minutes to reflect on what is important is so refreshing x
