Lotil Cream Review – Does it Work for Eczema Prone Skin?

*Contains gifted products in exhange for an honest review*

For the past few years I have suffered with atopic, discoid eczema predominantly on my hands, with the occasional patch on my face or neck. I was prescribed various hydrocortisone or steriod based creams, which have worked in the short term, but have not witnessed drastic results. I was recently sent some of Lotil’s Original Cream to try out to see if this made a difference. But before starting my review, I wanted to talk to you about eczema first.

What is Eczema?

Eczema is very common skin condition which affects a large proportion of the population. The skin becomes red, dry and cracked, and, in some serious cases, can even bleed. Eczema often appears in small inflammed patches, however others may experience flare ups across their entire body. Unfortunately, there are no definite causes of eczema, but various factors can contribute to the condition, including:

  • Stress
  • Food Allergies
  • Soaps & Detergents
  • Weather (especially colder climates)

For me, I get severe flare ups when I am stressed and if the weather is particularly cold. However, I still suffer with eczema even if the above factors are not actually present, but the severity of the condition is exacerbated when they are.

How to Treat Eczema

As mentioned at the start of this post, I was prescribed various creams from my doctor to help with my eczema. Whilst they do work, nothing has had a long term effect. Please bare in mind that there actually isn’t a ‘cure’ for eczema. Certain lotions and potions can work to reduce the inflammation, but nothing is guranteed to stop eczema all together.

Lotil Cream Review

Lotil Cream Product Shot. Soothing creams for eczema.

Lotil are a skincare brand with over 100 years of experience in the industry. Their products are designed for on-the-go use, with various sizes to suit all, including larger containers which are perfect for the whole family. Not only do Lotil have a cream which can be used all over the body, they also have a nourishing lip balm and foot cream. Lotil Cream is currently stocked in Boots, Lloyds Pharmacy, Superdrug, and Amazon.

I have used the cream for a couple of weeks now, and I have to say, I am impressed. The cream has quite a thick consistancy, however once blended into the skin it has a rather lightweight feel. My main area of concern is my hands, particularly around my knuckles (this is where I suffer with eczema), also the palms of my hands often get dry, however when using the Lotil Cream my hands feel instantly hydrated and softer. This feeling lasts for a couple of hours before I need to re-apply. Eczema can be very sore and itchy, and the Lotil Cream helps to combat this by soothing the skin immediately after application, relieving me of dry, cracked hands.

I occasionaly get the odd patch of eczema/dry skin on my face, and Lotil’s Cream works perfectly on my oily/sensitive skin. I like to apply the Original Cream to my face as a moisturiser in the evening. I have found that it keeps my skin hydrated without breaking me out or making my skin feel oily. It’s the perfect night-time cream.

Overall, I really like the Lotil cream, however it did not work particular well at reducing the appearance of my eczema. But as I mentioned at the start of this post, I even have trouble with prescribed creams. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience of using Lotil’s products and I would really recommend checking them out if you suffer with dry skin. Lotil are extremely affordable and an all round high quality brand. I would love to know if you have tried any of their products previously, or would be interested in trying them out now, after reading this review.

  1. These sound like great products. My hands are so dry and sore at the moment and I fear its only going to get worse as it gets colder. I’m definitely going to have a look in Boots and see if I can get some.
