Saalt Menstrual Cup Review

Saalt Menstrual Cup in Himalayan Pink

Period products are well known to be costly over time, and not to mention awful for the environment. I discovered menstrual cups online, after hearing more and more women talking about them as an alternative to the standard pads and tampons. As a tampon user, I was intrigued and wanted to try one of the little devices out.

For those that don’t know, menstrual cups are a reusable sanitary product worn inside the vagina, in a similar way to a tampon. The cups do not absorb your period but instead, collect it. Menstrual cups have many benefits, not only are they better for the environment (making us more sustainable), but they can be worn for up to 12 hours, if inserted correctly, for a fuss free period.

I was sent the Saalt Small Menstrual Cup* to review. The Saalt website have some great instructions on how to choose the right cup here, so I was able to find the perfect fit. The cup has it’s very own bag to keep it safe and hygienic when not in use, making it easy to carry around when on the go.

My periods are pretty reliable and I know exactly when my period is due to start. The morning of my period, I decided to try and insert the cup before aunt flow started (I had done a little research, so I knew this was safe). I followed the instructions which were inside the box, they were super easy and informative, and I was able to insert the cup correctly first time. The instructions gave a few different examples of how to fold and insert the cup, I decided to use the C-fold method. Once inserted, I genuinely couldn’t feel the cup at all, it was extremely comfortable to wear and I didn’t experience any leakage. I was quite surprised that I mastered it first time, I have joined a Saalt Cup Facebook group and a few users find it rather hard.

Upon removing for the first time, I did find this part quite difficult. The cup forms a suction around the cervix, so it took me a few attempts to successfully remove it. The best position for me was sitting, but this will differ from person to person, it’s whatever you find most comfortable.

Overall, I have really enjoyed my experience of using the Saalt Menstrual Cup and I am going to continue to use it during my period. I may switch to tampons and pads every now and again, but it’s a great alternative to using those wasteful products. I found it easy to insert, I didn’t experience leakage, and it was really comfortable. It also blows my mind that just one cup can last up to 10 years! The hardest part of my experience was the removal, but by the end of my cycle I found it easier to take out…practice makes perfect.

Have you tried a menstrual cup before? I would love to know if you are a convert like me!

Until Another Day x

  1. I’ve always been wary about using a menstrual cup, it sounds stupid but I’m always scared that it’s going to get stuck and I won’t be able to remove it! This does sound really good though and I may give a menstrual cup a try in the future! x

  2. I haven’t tried a menstrual cup yet, but do love the more sustainable side of them–less waste, saving money over time. I appreciate the honesty of what you struggled with for the cup so I am aware of all aspects of using it. Thanks so much for sharing your review!

  3. Thanks for being so honest about your experiences. I worry about the removal also. The biggest worry I have though is the materials they are made with. They say they are safe now, but what if ten years from now we find out they are leaching chemicals into our bodies (they are all bright colors after all)?

  4. I’ve only tried the Diva cup and since then, I never switched to tampons anymore! Having a period hassle free was a true relief, to be honest and wouldn’t get back for any amount of money. I was having a look at other brands when it’s time to change it and will keep Saalt in mind, thanks for sharing x
